Our methodologists have created what is probably one of the most engaging public speaking courses around: over two weeks in a workshop format, teenagers learn to write a genuinely interesting speech, adapt it for a specific audience and deliver it with real expressiveness — including voice, pacing and body language.

Lesson Plan:
Lessons 1-2 Introduction: the five steps of a successful speech. Finding the core idea: how to choose a speech topic. On the importance of a strong opening and closing. Text structure templates. Lessons 3-4 Improvisation — speaking without preparation. What verbal improvisation is and how to learn it. Lessons 5-6 Persuasive speech, or the art of argumentation. Counter-argumentation, or how to win a debate. Tactics of assertion and tactics of denial. Debate: hands-on practice and error review. Lesson 7 Speaking beautifully: how to make a speech vivid and memorable. Rhetorical devices and figures of speech. Memorable phrases. "Power words." Lessons 8-9 Storytelling. What is it? What makes a good story and how do you build one? Why tell stories, and where are they useful? Lesson 10 A TED-style talk. How to make people laugh and cry, how to surprise and amaze. Final presentation in front of an audience.
