Why We Group Students by Level, Not Just Age
Global Studio Team
Every new Global Studio student starts with a short interview and an informal level check — and it's one of the parts of our process parents ask about most.
It would be simpler to just group students by age. But two eight-year-olds can have completely different starting points: one might be a complete beginner, while the other already has a year or two of English from a previous school or through family. Putting them in the same group hurts both — one gets lost, the other gets bored.
Instead, our level check assesses real ability: vocabulary range, intuitive grasp of basic grammar, and confidence speaking aloud. It's deliberately low-pressure — for younger children, it barely feels like a test. As a result, each Primary, Junior or Senior Curriculum group is formed so that every student genuinely progresses, and no one gets left behind.
That's why we recommend booking your interview early: the better we understand a student's starting level, the more accurately we can place them in the right group from day one.
